Immigration restrictions in St. Lucia, the only non-St. Lucians
whose applications can be considered are qualified pilots and/or

Qualifications:
Office, Ground Crew, and Unlicensed Maintenance Staff:
-
St. Lucian
Citizenship;
-
Good to
excellent command of English both spoken and written;
-
Demonstrated
skills dealing with people - tourists in particular;
-
Computer
skills, particularily for office staff, would be an asset;
-
Mechanical
experience (for maintenance work) would be good;
-
Ground crew
need be in good physical shape;
-
Valid driver's
license for ground and maintenance crew preferred.

Pilots:
-
St. Lucian
Citizens, followed by other Caricom Nationals, preferred but
not an absolute requirement;
-
Valid and
current Commercial Helicopter Pilot's License issued by an
ICAO contracting state;
-
Type rating on
the AS350B preferred;
-
Minimum 1000
hours PIC in helicopters;
-
Clean police
record from your country of origin and/or residency;
-
No substance
abuse problems;
-
Good to
excellent command of the English language, multi-lingualism
an asset;
-
Excellent
people skills an unqualified must;
St.
Lucia Helicopters is called on to do more and more unique work such
as flying scientists around active volcanos. Candidates should know
their own capabilities and have good judgement. The job can be
inherently risky and an individual capable of getting the job done
without taking unreasonable risks is called for.
Please
note, successful candidates for the job who do not hold a DCA, CAA,
or equivalent license are granted a six month validation of their
current license. Within this period, they are required to write and
pass the CAA written exams for the General CPL(H). The exam is
notoriously tough, so those unable to commit the needed study time
to pass should take this into consideration before applying.
Occasional travel to other Islands for days and weeks at a time is
part of the job.

Engineers:
-
St. Lucian
Citizens, followed by other Caricom Nationals, preferred but

Maintenance Engineers (Helicopters) license issued by the
DCA, CAA, or equivalent;

factory course on the AS350 or 355 series helicopters;

Minimum three
years experience working in a helicopter maintenance
facility - preferrably JAR 145 or FAR 145 certified;

Quality
management training (ISO 9001) an asset;
-
Good to
excellent command of English;
-
Good
management and organizational skills;
-
Willingness to
work evenings;
-
Clean police
record from country of origin and/or residency;
-
No substance
abuse problem;
Qualification for Engineers is just as exacting as it is for Pilots.
Further, the need to work directly with people from many different
cultures is obligatory. Frequent travel to other Islands for days
and weeks at a time is part of the job.
Life in St. Lucia:
-
Temperature is
around thirty degrees Celcius year-round;
-
The sea is
crystal blue - excellent for diving;
-
There are
plenty of opportunities to get out on the water sailing,
windsurfing, diving;
-
The night life
is very active catering to both locals and tourists;
-
No McDonalds
or other fast food places (except KFC);
-
Not much in
the way of cinemas or theater but there is cable television
with HBO, Cinemax Ole, BBC, CNN, RFO, DW, and many other
well known stations;

Housing can be
found close to the popular areas. A single bedroom,
furnitured apartment in a convenient area would rent for
roughly $400.00 US per month;

Public
transport is readily available;
-
Roads can be
rough in places, traffic isn't any worse than it is anywhere
else. Lots of people drive 4WDs;
-
Shopping is
limited, but bigger urban centers like Martinique's capitol
Fort-De-France are only a short hop away;
-
They're are
plenty of singles around. Many expatriots working in St.
Lucia end up marrying locals;
-
There is a
nationalized health system, but most people also carry
private health insurance;
-
Cholera, TB,
Maliaria, AIDS, and other infectious diseases are no worse a
threat than in the US, Canada or Western Europe;
-
The water is
perfectly safe to drink out of the tap;
-
The beaches
are clean and beautiful, the polluted water is limited to
small rivers and their effluent into the sea near the major
towns and villages;
-
Cars can be
expensive. The best bet is to purchase a used Jeep for
around $6000.00 US. They hold this value for years;
-
Fantastic fish
and seafood, plenty of fresh local fruits, and breads;
-
Casual dress
is pretty much the rule;
-
There is a
sizable expatriot community largely made up of people from
England, Canada, the US, Germany, and France.
Working for St. Lucia
Helicopters:
-
The Company
operates seven days per week, 365 days per year, and flies
daylight hours only;
-
Pilots are
limited by regulatory maximums of flight time which
generally is reached. Even so, it's a pretty cushy work
schedule. When you work, you are expected to work with
little or no supervision;

Creative
problem solvers are successful with the company;

Three weeks
holiday per year;

Frequent work
out of the Island;
